What is VOIP?VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol. In simplest terms, it is the technology by which your voice is carried over the internet instead of wires as used in the regular telephone network.How does VoIP work?VoIP works by sending the your voice in forms of packets over the internet and receiving voice packets from the person you are talking to. This system of sending and receiving data is called Packet Switching which is highly efficient and saves cost.What do I need to use VoIP?A broadband (high speed Internet) connection is required. You'll also need a VOIP service account to make phone calls.You can set up your Keekey VOIP account to softphone in your computer. Or you can set up it in your IP phone or telephone adaptor. In this way you can make phone calls from computoer or directly make phone calls from a phone set. If you have bought IP-PBX like SX50 then you can register your VOIP account in it too. This will enable every extensions in your phone system to make voip phone calls. Specifically, to use VoIP you will need either a VoIP adapter like SI100C Gateway or IP phone set, or softphone software. If you tend to build your phone system then an IPPBX is also needed. How do I sign up for an account?You simply complete the Keekey VOIP account application and pay the prepaid fee we will send you by e-mail, your Username, Password, the IP address of the service. You will need these three bits of info to simply set up your softphone or hard SIP device and to access the on-line management information.How Can I Place a VoIP Call?If you have a handset connected to an ATA, simply dial as you would normally.If you are using softphone software with a microphone and headset, you can use the keypad on your computer keyboard or your mouse to dial the number. Can I Take My Phone Adapter with me when I travel?You may be able to use your VoIP service wherever you travel as long as you have a high speed internet connection available. In that case it would work the same as from your home or business. |
